Relational Trauma

Hi, I'm Maria Marc

ICF-credentialed coach and trauma integration practitioner

I work in the territory most leadership coaching avoids - the hidden, the unspoken, the parts of your history quietly shaping how you lead, relate, and show up today.

The First Institution is the Family. It Isn't the Last

Family is often the first institution most of us belong to - the place we first learn the unspoken rules of loyalty, love, and worth. Long before we adapt to a workplace or a movement, we adapt to a household: what earns us belonging, what keeps us safe, what costs too much to say out loud. That original blueprint doesn't disappear when we grow up. It becomes the lens through which we recognize - or fail to recognize - what's true for us everywhere else.

The Cost

The cost is not just emotional. It lives in the body as chronic override, confusion, depletion, self-doubt - a slow disconnection from your own inner authority.

Over time, you stop trusting yourself. You start performing instead of leading.

Where Things Turn

The same hidden patterns that shape a family go on to shape every institution we build after it - a team, a board, a movement, a cause. What began as one person's unspoken rule becomes a whole system's unspoken rule.

I help leaders bring what's hidden into the light - not as pathology, but as the raw material for real authority. This isn't about fixing what's wrong with you. It's about recognizing the patterns that once protected you, so you can finally set down what you no longer need to carry.

Who this is for

This work is for you if you're:

  • A leader, founder, or practitioner carrying more than you can name

  • A helper, facilitator, or first responder whose body has adapted to impossible environments

  • A caregiver or change-maker navigating inherited roles and unspoken rules

  • No longer willing to abandon yourself just to stay in a toxic or unhealthy system

  • Ready to live and lead with authenticity and integrity.

Research Anchor & Resources

Moral injury is one of the clearest researched examples of what happens when people are asked to act against their own values for too long, inside a system that keeps asking them to.
Here's where to see where you - or your organization - stand.

Bring this Work to Your Institution or Organization

When these patterns live inside a team, a board, or a movement, they shape culture, decisions, and retention - usually invisibly. I work with organizations ready to name what's been unspoken and build cultures where people can lead with integrity.
